I’ve downloaded and started modifying the Specular theme. However I have read that when I update the theme, all my changes will disappear and that creating a child theme is recommended.
I’ve started reading about this but my concern is that all my changes to the parent theme will disappear when I create a child theme and update the parent theme with the new version- my changes are not transferred to the child theme…?
This is my first WP site so I am making changes to the front end of the website, I am at a very beginners level with code.
Please advise on what I should do.
Thanks,
Alex

Hello,
Every change you make to the theme using theme options, is saved in the database so the theme update does not affect it. If you intend to make more changes to it, like directly to the core files, then it is recommended to use a child theme.
Add in child theme folder all the files you have made changes to. So whenever a theme update is performed, it will overwrite the parent theme files, not the ones you have changed.
By activating the child theme, you enable all the customizations created in it.
I hope i was clear enough. For more detailed information about the work with a child theme, please read this article.Let us know.
Best regards!
