Can you confirm the easiest way to update the theme.
1. de-active the child theme
2. Activate Tower theme
3. Upload the new Tower theme – Will the new one overwrite the old one or will 2 show up under “Appearance”
4. Activate the new Tower theme – Delete the old version
5. Install the required plugins
6. Activate the child theme
Please let me know if I’ve missed anything
Thanks

Hello,
if you are using a child theme, you do not need to de-activate it. The theme update overwrites only parent theme files. Child theme is independent to this process.
Follow these steps:1-Delete Tower theme with files / Or go to wp-content/themes folder via ftp and rename current Tower theme folder (the parent). So you will have a backup of the older version.
2-Go to WordPress dashboard > Themes > Add New, import the new version.
That’s it. Let us know if you have further questions.
Best regards!

Hello,
Just like the message says: Destination folder already exists. /home/content/…/18/3133218/html/wp-content/plugins/envato-wordpress-toolkit/
The destination folder already exists. You need to go to wp-content/plugins folder via ftp access and delete / rename the envato-wordpress-toolkit folder. Then try again.
Let us know.

So is it best to delete the main Tower theme then just upload the new version of tower ( I had renamed the old one in FTP as “tower1.8.1”
So for every site I will have to delete the envato-wordpress-toolkit and/or rename it?
So here are my steps for updating, please add anything you think I’m missing:
1-Delete Tower theme with files / Or go to wp-content/themes folder via ftp and rename current Tower theme folder (the parent). So you will have a backup of the older version.
2-Go to WordPress dashboard > Themes > Add New, import the new version.
3- I might have to delete/rename the envato-wordpress-toolkit folder if install fails
Thanks!

Hello,
You are trying to update plugins while you have still the child theme active? This is not correct. First activate parent theme and then update plugins, otherwise you will get the “wrong url” error.
To update Visual Composer you have to follow the instructions in this article.
Let us know.Best regards!

Hello,
Updating theme and updating plugins are different processes.
While you update theme, it will automatically replace parent theme files. This does not cause any issue with your current child theme. So it is not necessary to de-activate it.
But if you are updating the plugins, this is another process. As you see the main theme folder has the ‘plugins‘ folder included in it. When you first install theme (parent), in your wordpress dashboard, you will see the message requiring you to install neccesary plugins. WordPress follows this path parent_theme/plugins to find and install the included plugins. If you try to update from child theme the url will be child_theme/plugins, which does not exist and will generate the error.
I hope i explained it clearly. Please let me know if you have further questions.Best regards!

Thanks for the clarity:)
So to update the theme I should do the following:
1. Delete old Tower theme or back up/rename in FTP
2. Upload new tower theme
3. Activate new tower theme
4. Update any plugins
5. Activate child theme
