I wanted to update Visual Composer after the WordPress 5.+ updates, so started by updating the theme using the directions here. That seemed to work fine.
Then I tried to update plugins, using the directions here. That’s where things went very wrong. I deleted the plugins as directed, then tried to reinstall them. I went to the Install Required Plugins page and reinstalled all the plugins I had deleted. However, Visual Composer and Revolution Slider keep reinstalling old versions (see screenshot), and won’t activate unless they are updated. I keep clicking “Update”, and WordPress says they’re updated (see screenshot), but when I return to the Install Required Plugins page (or the standard Plugins page) it wants to force an update rather than activate the plugins (see screenshot).
So my site is broken until this can be repaired. PLEASE HELP!!!!
UPDATE: I was able to update Visual Composer and Slider Revolution by switching to the Specular plugin (away from my child theme), but when I switch back, I get a PHP error/white screen on the front side of my site. HELP STILL NEEDED PLEASE!! Thank you!

Hello,
Is this the site you are referring to: https://viewmywebsitedraft.com/amins/ ?
I see this is up and running. Did you manage to fix your issue?
Let us know.Merry Christmas!

Actually, no, this never got fixed. I had to switch to the core theme and turn off the child theme completely. Something in the update completely broke the child theme.

Hello,
Normally, the child theme overwrites parent theme functions/style. I suggest you check closely every function added to child theme to find the bug.
Best regards and a Happy New Year!

Figured it out. It was a problem with the child theme. Thank you! :)
