After successfully importing your demo data, you go to your home page to see in great disappointment that the site is Nowhere near the online demo. What do you do now? Please make sure to perform these quick steps now:
1-The first step is always the same: “Do not panic!” You already have all the puzzle peaces. Now you have to put them together. Trust me, it’s way easier than an actual puzzle. All you need is imported and ready to use.
As the most important part of the wordpress site, the home page is the first presentation of you work. And so the first thing to set up after the import. Go to your theme’s General Options > Select Special Pages > Select Frontpage/Select Blog page
2-The images: If you have imported the demo with attachments, then all images used in the demo will be imported as well. Since these images are of high resolution, they increase significantly the size of demo data to import. Most servers do not offer a lot of memory limit, especially if you’re in a shared hosting. Please know that these images are for demonstration purpose only. You have to upload your own licensed images to your site. However, if you must have the same images and did not include them in the import process then just download them directly from the online demo.
3-The menu: Go to Appearance > Menus, and assign a main menu to your site; From the import, you already have pre-created the main menu, footer menu and some additional menu (based on the type of demo you imported). Add more, edit them out or delete the ones you do not want.
4-The widgets: Go to Appearances> Widgets > Inactive Widgets area (scroll down to the bottom of the widget page) and drag and drop the already imported widgets to the right place (footer widgets to footer etc). If you see less or more footer columns than wanted, then go to General Options > Footer Options select the number of footer columns here.
5-Import additional sliders: During the dummy data import, some of the sliders will be created. Example, all Codeless sliders used in the demo. If you want to have more options, then go to Revolution slider options > Import Sliders. Find all Revolution sliders in the folder “sliders_dummy_data“. To find this, unzip the main file you downloaded from Envato. Inside it there will be some folders: specular, specular-child, sliders_dummy_data, documentation, Licensing;
Open the “sliders_dummy_data” folder and import as much sliders as you need.
This should be more than enough to build the core of your site. You can now continue customizing it’s style and adding your own content.
Do not hesitate to check theme’s online documentation, Video Tutorials and the support forum in case of any question.
